Ford International Airport this morning as three government officials were shot in what authorities are calling a “targeted attack.” The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m. near the airport’s main terminal entrance, sending travelers into panic and prompting a rapid response from law enforcement.

According to the Kent County Sheriff’s Department, the three victims — whose identities are being withheld pending family notification — are confirmed to be mid- to high-level government employees. Sources say they were in the city on official business, though specific details about their roles and the nature of their visit remain undisclosed.

The shooter, a male suspect in his 30s, was apprehended at the scene following a brief standoff with airport security and local police. Officials have not yet released his name or possible motive but say he acted alone. A firearm was recovered at the scene, and the FBI has joined the investigation due to the involvement of federal personnel.

Emergency medical teams responded within minutes, and all three victims were transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital. As of this afternoon, one official is in critical condition, while the other two are stable but undergoing surgery.

The airport was temporarily placed on lockdown, with all inbound and outbound flights delayed or canceled for several hours. It has since resumed limited operations, though heightened security remains in place.
